Brewer Description
Warm spiciness and tradition grace this bold winter ale. Intriguing, layered flavors unfold to reveal chicory, dried fruit and toffee notes with a hoppy kick to finish. The deep garnet color pairs perfectly with holiday celebrations.
Deschutes was released to us Ohioans earlier this year, so this is our first tasting of Jubelale. This beer is dark and contains endless flavors to accommodate the winter warmer seasonal style; however, this beer is not-so-much a winter warmer…it is regarded as a strong ale and has no evidence as being spiced with Christmas flavorings such as the tradition cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
Appearance:
Jubelale pours a deep amber opaque hue. It has a beautiful red tint throughout and a two finger tan head.
Aroma:
The beer gives off a complexion of interesting scents. It smells of malt driven sweetness, citrus and spice.
Taste:
The flavor is also comlex. You get a collision of malts, caramel essence, spice and it finishes strong with citrusy hops. As I have already mentioned, the beer does not contain any Christmas spices, the spice flavors that come out are from the interesting hops used during the brew and dry-hop.
Deschutes Jubelale has been brewed since the winter season of 1988 and was the brewery’s first seasonal style. The label has been changed every year since ’88; a new artist takes the crown every year for putting a new spin on the bottle’s artwork. This beer has a proud tradition and is brewed to perfection.
I highly recommend grabbing a six pack of Jubelale and enjoy it while it lasts. This will become your favorite Christmas beer.
Sidenote:
Deschutes gives out the recipe for cloning purposes. If you are a homebrewer, contact us for the broken down recipe with the exact ingredients you will need…I will be brewing a batch of Jubelale clone very soon!
