This is Lazy Magnolia’s original Sweet Potato Cream Stout. I’ve had their Southern Pecan Nut Brown, and I really enjoyed it. So when I saw this on tap, I definitely decided to try it. I’m generally a stout fan, so I was excited for this, as it definitely sounded like an interesting combination.
As it was brought to me, I noticed it was pitch black in color, and had a small, tan head. In my opinion, it really had no distinct smell. As I took the first taste, I was waiting for the sweet potato cream taste, but it didn’t show up. I sipped again…..It was thick, but nothing really stood out to me, except that I noticed that it left a dry after taste. I was also surprised at the abv on this, coming in at 4.65 %, which is pretty tame, especially for a stout.
Overall this stout wasn’t for me, however that’s not say it wouldn’t be for you! As I said before, the other pecan brown ale I had from these guys was great, and I look forward to trying more from these guys in the future. And remember “People who drink light ‘beer’ don’t like the taste of beer; they just like to pee alot.”
