Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen

Brewer Description

Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle “conditioning” guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the “cloudy” nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and poor slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen is a German styled wheat ale mixed with a grapefuit flavored drink. It tastes like 50% soda and 50% Hefeweizen. This beer is interesting…but I don’t see myself buying anymore of it anytime soon. It is a bright orange color with pure sweetness. The aroma is sweet grapefruit.

The taste is a mild hefeweizen with the most of the flavor coming from the grapefruit drink. It is hazy and unfiltered, so don’t be surprised by the yeast at the bottom o the bottle. This beer is reminiscient of a style of shandy, but with the obvious grapefruit flavor. Most Shandys are brewed just like any other beer, but lemonade is added when bottling. I believe this is how Schöfferhofer was brewed because it tastes very similar in style, but with more fruity flavors.
