Neapolitan Milk Stout is a sweet stout brewed by the Saugatuck Brewing Company. The beer was brewed to taste like Neapolitan ice cream and it tastes pretty darn close to it. Saugatuck Brewing Company hit Ohio distributors earlier this year. I have seen many of their beers on the shelves, but Neapolitan Milk Stout was the only one that I have tried. It is packaged in a hot pink 4-pack and it grabbed my attention as soon as I walked into the beer store.
The beer pours a dark black color that you can’t see through. It is full-bodied and smells mostly of chocolate and sweet, sweet malts. The taste is astonishing…it actually tastes like Neapolitan ice cream. You first get a huge mouthful of chocolate and vanilla from the malts and lactose(milk sugar), but then the strawberry flavor hits you with a perfect amount of flavoring that doesn’t overpower the rest of the beer. I am not a huge fan of fruity stouts, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into; however, the fruit flavor was just enough to pull all of the ingredients together to create a Neapolitan ice cream flavor.
This will forever be my favorite milk stout…except it is only available once a year in 12 oz. bottles. I have already purchased two more 4-packs since my first tasting and the selection is limited…so hurry up while it is still in stock!
