Brewer Description
Our popular IPA, with a punch of heat. Our Sculpin IPA with Habanero Pepper began as a crazy experiment that’s taken on a life of its own.
While its bright fruit notes and hoppy bite has made the original one of our favorites, this version takes that balance of flavors to the next level with the citrusy, floral heat of habaneros. Sculpin are known to sting, but this one’s got a kick.
Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin is a hotter version of their Sculpin IPA. Sculpin is a gold-medal winning IPA with explosive hop bitterness and intense fruit flavors. Ballast Point has made a couple variations of Sculpin…so far there are habanero and grapefruit versions.
If you haven’t tried Ballast Point Sculpin, then you are missing out. It packs a wild punch of exotic fruit flavors that are brought out from all of hop varieties. The habanero version is intense. I’ve tried spicy beers before, but this one is hot! The heat from the habanero peppers really tone down the fruit and bitter flavors that you expect from an IPA. Don’t get me wrong, Habanero Sculpin is still hoppy, but your tastebuds will be more focused on the heat then anything else.
As much as I want to like this beer, I cannot drink more than one in a sitting. The habanero flavor is way to spicy to enjoy. I bought a six-pack of Habanero Sculpin for a hefty price and would of rather sampled it from a bomber. I feel that it is more of a conversational beer for many people to share and enjoy then to try and consume all for yourself.
I look forward to trying other variations of the beer. Grapefruit Sculpin has already hit stores and is generating a lot of buzz. Check back soon for the review!
