Brewer Description
Woodchuck Cellar Series Sour Cherry is crafted in the tradition of age-old Belgian sour beers. Culinary and bittersweet cider apple varieties make up the fermented cider. Cherries sourced from Belgium are then added. The cherries bring a deep red color to the cider and leave behind subtle tart and sour fruit notes. This is a very delicate cider full of complexity.
Woodchuck has definitely made a push in the past year to compete with some of their competitor cider breweries in the most recent cider trend going around in the beer world. They have introduced several new private reserves and introduced the Cellar Series.
Their newest Cellar Series innovation Sour Cherry is one that I thought could go either way. In the past we have found their new Cellar Series releases to be either very enjoyable, such as the chocolate, and so-so, like their ginger release.
Upon pouring you will notice a beautiful pinkish-ruby color that makes this beer very attractive. However, the aroma seemed a little off to us giving a strange tart cherry smell. The flavor was quite simple, tart cherry that was very easy to drink. There wasn’t anything very special in the taste, but I will say this one was very easy to drink. One warning about this beer is that after drinking a glass of this your taste palate will be thrown off. The tartness of the cherry flavor will make your next beer taste very sugary.
Overall, I found this cider to be very decent when looking for something new to try.
