Magic Hat Hicu

Brewer Description
Perfect form with a smooth, malty opening line followed by a crisp, citrusy hop-filled second stanza. The final piece of its poetic existence is a dash of cool cucumber combined with the slightest of hibiscus tangs.

This new Magic Hat brew is truly a shocker. Hicu is a cucumber and hibiscus flavored ale. I know what your thinking…cucumber brewed beer cannot taste good, but just wait ’til you get your hands on this. The first sip is scary. Aromas of cucumber and a hint of pickles trickled out of the bottle. I dove into the beer with caution, and wasn’t amazed at first sip. Upon taking more and more sips, I enjoyed the beer much more. The pour is a deep copper tone with such an interesting aroma of veggies and citrus. The taste is huge. You get the cucumber, flower and hop feel all in one. The cucumber flavor is definitely strange for a beer, but it turns out to go down pretty smooth. The hibiscus addition gives Hicu another crazy twist. The combination of weirdness is truly impressive. Everyone else who tried this beer with me was appalled, but I enjoyed every minute. Overall, I would recommend this unusual brew to those who appreciate crazy flavored ales. If your not one for liking cucumber, than you should probably stay clear of this beer.

I purchased this beer in the newest Magic Hat summer sampler pack. Along with Hicu, the 12-pack included Elder Betty (one of our favorites), #9, and Blind Faith. It is simply the best samplers that you could ask for. Enjoy!
